Dr. Elías Alfonso Forero
A specialist physician in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and epidemiology who, after beginning his experience in classical analysis, decided to become a psychoanalyst without abandoning his medical practice.
Career and Clinical Approach
A specialist physician in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and epidemiology who, after beginning his experience in classical analysis, decided to become a psychoanalyst without abandoning his medical practice. In this process, he came into contact with Freudian psychosomatic psychoanalysis, which he began to apply with his patients, especially those with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, achieving a therapeutic success rate above 90% in long-term remission.
This result led him to deepen his study of general Freudian psychoanalysis alongside training analysts from different countries and, subsequently, to specialize in Freudian psychosomatic psychoanalysis. Over time, he has treated a growing number of patients with various somatic illnesses, refining his technique and achieving increasingly solid therapeutic results.
He has worked hand in hand with a group of training psychoanalysts with classical IPA training, both national and international, with whom he has formed a working group: the Psychosomatic Society of Colombia, a space in which he has developed and deepened these topics over the last decade.
As an internist and gastroenterologist with nearly three decades of experience, he knows firsthand the limitations of Western allopathic medicine, especially in the treatment of chronic diseases and most cancers, without disregarding its great usefulness in acute and infectious diseases. This experience has led him to explore psychosomatic psychoanalysis in depth as a therapeutic complement.
Professional Summary
Intellectual Philosophy
Integration of Wisdom Traditions
He has sought to enrich this knowledge by studying the Eastern psychosomatic vision in India, particularly that related to the yogic sciences, where he found important parallels with his clinical practice. This complementarity has allowed him to advance in the integration of Western and Eastern approaches.
Dissemination of the Technique
All of this has led him to deepen his knowledge of psychosomatics and to refine his classical Freudian training, with the aim of disseminating this knowledge as the foundation for the work of his group of psychosomatic psychoanalysts.
