Freud Institute of Psychoanalysis
Founded with the purpose of bringing real, clinical, and up-to-date psychoanalytic training to mental health professionals around the world.
Taking Psychoanalysis to Its Full Potential
Our institute was created with the aim of bringing genuine, up-to-date psychoanalytic training that is of practical use to health professionals—especially mental health professionals—in every corner of the planet, providing them with practical, straightforward tools, based on the latest developments in Freudian Psychoanalysis, to help reduce human suffering and, in addition, to help human beings flourish until they reach the fullness of their faculties and their well-being.
We want to revive the great therapeutic potential of psychoanalysis, which is completely underutilized and, after more than a century of existence, has so far played only a marginal role in improving people's quality of life and health.
Social Diagnosis
Today's society, especially Western society, is experiencing a profound existential crisis, and psychic suffering, despite many technological and economic developments, keeps on increasing.
"We seek to make this tool widespread in its use and in its benefits, which are currently accessible to a minority of humanity, and generally to those with the greatest resources."
Psychosomatic Psychoanalysis
A little-explored dimension with extraordinary clinical reach for physical and organic conditions.
Medical and Clinical Specialization
Although we offer courses in general Freudian psychoanalysis, our academy—founded by specialist physicians who are also psychoanalysts and who for many years have used Freudian knowledge to treat our somatic patients as well—has a vocation for the research and dissemination of Psychosomatic Psychoanalysis. A decade of experience successfully treating somatic patients using concepts from Freudian Psychosomatics and Eastern Psychosomatics has allowed us to integrate a broader vision of the human being and of somatic and mental illness, without diminishing the importance and usefulness of the advances of classical Freudian Psychoanalysis for the treatment of the neurotic patient.
The Somatic Dimension and Cancer
Freudian developments are now recognized not only as a strategy to help alleviate psychic suffering, but also as an extremely powerful tool to help improve somatic illnesses—something of which most psychoanalysts and people who work therapeutically with Freudian ideas have almost no practical knowledge. In this way, we contribute to the development of multidisciplinary methods with a more holistic vision, to cure all kinds of illnesses, even the most serious ones, such as cancer.
Bridges between Western metapsychology and the ancient wisdom of the East.
East-West Integration
We recognize the lack of familiarity with Eastern psychosomatics among most scholars of the subject, and for this reason we also seek to build small bridges that allow a faster integration of the best Western wisdom about the mind and suffering with its Eastern counterpart, for mutual benefit and mutual enrichment, in the pursuit of improving human health and well-being, at a time when, moreover, a desire for the expansion of consciousness and spirituality is growing.
Applied and Short-Term Psychoanalysis
We also seek to disseminate a simpler and more practical form of psychoanalysis than the classical version of four or more weekly sessions; and additionally to present short-term techniques of applied Psychoanalysis, which are powerful and practical tools for helping to resolve vital crises quickly and effectively, such as an acute and severe somatic illness.
Overcoming Training Barriers
We seek to address, in part, the great difficulty of receiving serious training in Psychoanalysis in most of the world—not only because of the limited number of training societies and the high costs, but also because of the great tower of Babel of contradictory ideas contaminated by politics or passing ideologies.
Clarifying the Misunderstandings
First, we want to disseminate and revitalize Freudian Psychoanalysis and to clarify the great misunderstandings about Freudian theory, attacked by many cultures, presenting all of its main developments—over more than a century of evolution—in a simple, engaging, clear, and concise, yet profound, manner.
A Coherent and Practical Vision
We provide a broad, deep, and coherent vision of Freud's oeuvre, easy to apply in practice, that revalues its incredible therapeutic potential. With a clear vision, professionals will be able to carry out a more joyful, enjoyable, and higher-impact practice.
Requirements and Student Profile
Although our courses are not aimed only at Freudian psychoanalysts, we do believe it is highly advisable that, before studying this deep integration of Freudian theory and its new developments in psychosomatics, students have practiced, studied, or at least read the original Freudian oeuvre, and ideally that they are, or have been at some point in their lives, in analysis.
We also recognize that, for many professionals interested in the subject, our academy can be the perfect gateway to Freudian knowledge.
An Independent Scientific Channel
We also seek to be a site of continuous updating and of the publication of writings by psychoanalysts or Freud scholars who work with similar ideas and who, like us, have found no outlet to disseminate our ideas in the conventional psychoanalytic journals, which are trapped in publishing houses with specific ideological and political interests.
Important Legal and Academic Clarification
These courses do not replace the training required by the legislation of each country to become a mental health professional with legal authorization to treat psychic or somatic patients; but we believe that, for those who meet these requirements, they will be a very useful tool for the benefit of their patients.
Psychoanalysts and other mental health professionals who use these Freudian concepts, reviewed and organized into a simple and practical technique, will become more active and effective protagonists in relieving the pain and suffering of the world, and driving forces that will propel human flourishing.
"We expect to be received with a certain skepticism, but also with a certain generosity, because, like you, we have explored many paths, seeking solutions for ourselves and for our patients, before arriving here; and what we bring is our work, experience, and opinion, which does not claim to be the ultimate truth, but which we believe contains valuable elements."
